As the storage tanks aged, the exterior paint was experiencing significant weathering. The binder in the paint began to break down, leaving a chalky white residue on the surface - a clear indicator that maintenance was urgently needed. In addition, the presence of soluble salts on the tank surfaces posed a risk of corrosion, requiring immediate action.

Scope of Work

Cleaning: Initial cleaning of tanks using chlorowash to remove chalky residue and prepare the surface
Preparation: Achieving SSPC-sp1 and SSPC-sp3 standards through solvent cleaning and power tooling to ensure a clean, paint-ready surface
Priming: Application of Macropoxy 646 protective, fast-cure epoxy primer
Finishing: Final application of Acrolon ultra high-gloss coat for a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish

Notable Details

To meet the rigorous SSPC-sp1 and SSPC-sp3 standards, we ensured that the tanks were thoroughly cleaned and prepared. This included the use of solvents to remove contaminants and power tools to remove any remaining loose materials.

The application of Macropoxy 646 and Acrolon coatings provided both immediate aesthetic improvements and long-term protective benefits. These high-performance materials were chosen to withstand the harsh environmental conditions the tanks are exposed to.
