Client Background

A river barge loading terminal in Mississippi is a major player in the transportation and logistics industry, specializing in the handling of bulk commodities such as grain. The terminal's sprawling facility features numerous critical structures, including 92 massive grain silos, each standing an impressive 135 feet tall.

The terminal operates 24/7, managing the loading and unloading of grain barges along a major river. Given the terminal's constant exposure to the elements and the need for seamless operations, maintenance is critical to efficiency.

Requested Maintenance

The client required a complete maintenance on their 92 grain silos, including cleaning, repair, and painting. The project also included the application of large, 40-foot company logos on the sides of the silos to enhance their corporate branding.

Structural Integrity and Safety

Maintaining the structural integrity of the silos was a key priority, as any compromise could disrupt operations and pose safety risks. Repairing cracks and spalling in the concrete ensured that the silos remained fit for purpose.

Aesthetic Enhancement

With new 40-foot logos applied to the silos, the terminal sought not only functional improvements, but also a striking visual impact in keeping with its corporate identity.

Scope of Work

Surface Cleaning: A 6000 PSI power washer was used to thoroughly clean the silo surfaces.
Surface Preparation: The area was masked and tarped to prevent overspray, and power tools were used to remove any loose debris and ensure that the surfaces were ready for repair and painting.
Concrete Repair: Carboline patching compound was used to repair spalled concrete and Stampede crack filler was used for cracks.
Painting: A fresh coat of industrial paint was applied to the silos.
Logo Application: Company logos measuring 40 feet in length were applied to the sides of the silos.

Despite weather delays, Painters USA successfully completed the project on schedule through meticulous planning and efficient allocation of more than 7,000 man-hours.

For the repairs, we chose Carboline patching compound and Stampede crack filler, both well-suited for exterior applications. These materials ensured long-lasting repairs that would withstand harsh weather conditions.
