CN Railroad, a major player in the North American rail transportation sector, operates an extensive network that includes routes in Iowa and Illinois. CN Railroad's facilities include several diesel fuel tanks that are integral to its operations. Due to their proximity to the tracks and their critical role, these tanks require meticulous maintenance to meet specific regulatory standards.

Requested Maintenance

CN Railroad asked us to paint three diesel fuel tanks to not only increase their longevity, but also to align safety regulations and aesthetic standards. This involved extensive cleaning, preparation and painting processes to ensure optimal results.

Scope of Work

Power Washing: We utilized our 6000 PSI power washer to remove loose debris and contaminants from the sides of the tanks, preparing them for the coating process. This step was crucial for ensuring proper adhesion of the paint.
Sandblasting: The tops of the tanks required sandblasting to remove the rough and deteriorated surfaces down to clean metal. This is essential for the effective application of the coatings.
Coatings Application: Following the preparation, we applied high-quality coatings designed to withstand the harsh environmental conditions and the specific requirements of diesel fuel storage.
Logo and Lettering: To complete the project, new logos and lettering were applied to the tanks, bringing them back to life and ensuring they met CN Railroad’s branding standards.

Notable Details

Given the nature of the fuel tanks, this project required adherence to strict regulations. In addition, due to the proximity of the tanks to the railroad, special insurance was obtained to cover the unique risks associated with the project.

The tanks featured vertical piping that could have posed challenges. However, our experienced crew skillfully worked around these elements, ensuring that the final finish was flawless and unimpeded by the complex tank features.

Throughout the project, safety was paramount. We followed stringent procedures to protect our team and the surrounding environment, complying with OSHA guidelines and CN Railroad’s safety protocols. This included the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and safety measures to manage the project safely.
