Client and Facility Overview

Our client is a heavy manufacturing facility located in Chicago, Illinois. The facility houses a diverse collection of machinery categorized into small, medium, and large units. These serve as the backbone of their operations, producing high-quality products essential to a range of industries.

Requested Maintenance

The primary focus of this project was the cleaning and electrostatic painting of 30 small, 30 medium, and four large machines throughout the facility. The goal was to transform well-worn machinery into units that look updated and are protected for long-term use.

Worn-out machinery not only detracts from the overall aesthetics of the facility but also poses potential hazards and inefficiencies. The client was driven by the need to extend the lifespan of their machinery, improve workplace safety, and ensure operational efficiency. The project was scheduled to minimize disruption and was executed during planned maintenance windows.

Scope of Work

Surface Cleaning: Cleaning all surfaces to be painted using a combination of shop vacuuming, industrial degreaser (diluted), industrial biodegradable degreaser, Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch pads, terry towels, and microfiber cloths to remove contaminants.
Hand Sanding: Light hand sanding to create a profile for the new coating.
Component Masking: Masking off all components not to receive paint.
Surface Preparation: Wiping all surfaces to receive paint with Xylene and microfiber cloths to remove any residual oils and prepare for paint application.
Electrostatic Spraying: Applying 1-2 coats of JC Inviropoxy Perfection via electrostatic sprayer, with the color chosen as black on bottoms and grey on tops per customer direction.
Finishing Touches: Removing all masking and ensuring a clean, finished look.

A refreshed appearance makes it easier for operators to spot leaks and other problems early, improving both the safety and efficiency of the facility.
