Client and Facility Overview

Located in Illinois, this agricultural supply cooperative is a central hub for surrounding farms and plays a critical role in the storage and distribution of agricultural commodities. The facility includes 16 large storage tanks, connecting piping and a bridge connecting four of the tanks.

Requested Maintenance

The project involved the complete repainting of 16 storage tanks, including all connecting piping and a bridge, to improve protection against weathering and corrosion. Timing was critical to coincide with the seasonal change to fall and to anticipate wetter weather that could exacerbate surface damage if neglected.

Scope of Work

Ground Containment Setup: Implemented ground containment measures to catch all paint flakes and debris, preventing environmental contamination.
Power Washing: Utilized 3,000 and 6,000 PSI power washers to remove dirt, surface corrosion, debris, and loose remnants of past coatings effectively.
Surface Preparation: Hand tooled any remaining flaking paint and rust to ensure a smooth, clean surface.
Priming: Applied Carboline 893 primer as a robust base coat to enhance adhesion and durability.
Finish Coating: Utilized one coat of Carbothane 134 HG, applied at 2-3 mils DFT, to provide a high-gloss, protective finish.
