Our client operates a critical ship loading facility on the Gulf Coast of Texas, handling significant maritime traffic and shipping operations. Charged with the demanding task of loading cargo onto ships, this facility deals with the unforgiving, corrosive coastal environment on a daily basis.

Requested Maintenance

The existing coatings on the ship loader were failing, and the client required immediate cleaning and repainting to prevent long-term damage from corrosion.

Decision Driver and Timing

The primary driver for this project was the rapid deterioration of the loader's existing coatings due to the corrosive coastal environment. Timely intervention was required to prevent structural damage and ensure the continued operation of the loader.

Scope of Work

Safety Precautions
- Daily safety inspections before, during, and after each shift
- Utilization of aerial lifts and machinery with stringent safety protocols
- Maintenance of an injury-free record
Debris Containment
- Installation of a large netting apparatus to catch any falling debris during cleaning and painting
- Ensured no contamination of the ocean underneath
Corrosion Prevention
- Power washing with a 6000 PSI industrial unit
- Degreasing surfaces as needed for optimal adhesion
- Application of two coats of rust encapsulating primer
- Completion with two coats of Sherwin Williams Acrolon 218 Gloss
- Ladders and railings painted with OSHA Safety Yellow for increased safety visibility

Notable Details

Given the unique working conditions—over the water and near operational machinery—safety was our top priority. The project included rigorous daily inspections to ensure the safety of both the Painters USA team and the client's personnel.

To address environmental concerns, a netting system was deployed beneath the work area to contain any debris. This ensured that we met environmental protection standards and maintained cleanliness during the operation.

Using industrial power washing and high-grade corrosion-resistant coatings, we gave the shiploader a new layer of defense against the harsh coastal elements. This targeted approach reduces future maintenance needs and extends the life of the equipment.
