Facility Description

Our client, a global delivery company, operates an extensive distribution hub in Chicago, Illinois. Known for their efficient package handling and stringent operational standards, this facility is crucial to their national logistics network. The delivery center houses 35 bays dedicated to the seamless movement of packages through automated conveyor systems. These aluminum structures and conveyors are essential to maintaining the facility’s operational efficiency.

Decision Driver and Timing

Located in Tomah, Wisconsin, the facility covers a large area dedicated to the production of various glass products. As part of its ongoing commitment to safety and efficiency, Cardinal Glass Industries sought to upgrade the plant's floor line striping. This specific project focused on line striping in two different areas of the plant, covering over 1,600 lineal feet. The work was scheduled to take place during both regular and after-hours hours to minimize disruption to the production process.

Scope of Work

Safety Precautions: Implement protective coverings and cautionary marking of work areas
Line Planning: Layout and precise positioning of lines
Surface Preparation: Floor shot blasting for optimal surface preparation
Marking Guidelines: Taping out 4-foot lines for accurate application
Primary Coating: Application of Sherwin-Williams Macro-Poxy Epoxy in Safety Yellow
Finishing Touches: Removal of tape and subsequent application of a clear coat using High Build 100% Solids Polyaspartic Clear

Notable Details

The project required coordination with the facility to ensure that the area was closed during the work and that power was provided to the equipment. This collaborative approach helped streamline the process and ensure minimal disruption to operations.

Safety

All work was conducted within Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and additional Painters USA safety procedures, which included:
Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, spray suits, facial respirators, hard hats, steel toe boots, and safety glasses
Identification of work areas with safety cones and caution tape to alert employees and patrons
Certification and documentation of all lift operators, with mandatory use of safety harnesses in aerial lifts
Implementation of a Controlled Access Zone (CAZ) to prevent non-essential workers from entering active work areas, marked clearly with red "Do Not Enter" boundary tape
